Jiyu (Freedom or open minded) Karate (Open hand technique) Style

JKS was founded by James Monette who was born in Ontario and raised in Montreal Quebec Canada. James has 43 years in martial arts disciplines. His credentials include black belt 5th Dan in Shorinji Ryu Kente Karate,& 3rd Dan in Shorinji Kenyukai Karate, Has competed in wrestling, judo, jui jitsu, kickboxing, Thai boxing, savate, full contact karate, and over 43 years experience in boxing.

Given the knowledge of these different disciplines of martial arts he has pursued, Mr. Monette has been able to formulate a martial training system that enables students of all levels to enjoy the benefits of his years of training.

JKS streetwise is a combination of different martial arts disciplines. Taking the best elements suited for properly dealing with altercations one may have to defend oneself from. Not only do we focus’s on the physical aspects (stand up, ground, strikes hands and kicks, knees, elbows, weapons, ect.) But also the psychology needed to deal with the potential street altercation (how to think for reality & how to deal with adrenaline stress through scenario based training.)

Required Wear/Equipment

*A Martial Arts Gi (Karate or Judo) is required and mandatory uniform for this class. A Gi is heavy cotton uniformed worn by the students and utilized for securing grips and holds on opponents. The use of the Gi translates great into gripping a shirt or jacket for self defence outside of training.
 
*MMA gloves & Shin Pads for sparring purposes
*Protective Cup (for males)
